Do you need replacement windows for your home? If so, it helps to know about the following things to consider to ensure that you make a great choice.
The Material
When working with a window installation company, the first thing they are going to ask is what type of material you want for your windows. There are a variety of different styles that can impact the price, energy efficiency, and overall look of the windows. Some people feel very strongly about wood windows because of how they look or lean towards vinyl or fiberglass because of energy efficiency. They may want aluminum windows because they are on a budget. Take a moment to really think about the material, because it will set you down the path of other options to pick from and have the biggest impact on your budget.
The Style
The next thing to consider is what style of windows you want for your home. A very popular choice is to select a double-hung window, which will allow you to open the sash from either the top of the bottom. This can be a great choice if you have kids and pets since you can let in the fresh air and not worry about them pressing up against the screen and falling through the open window. Single-hung windows are cheaper, but only allow you to open up the bottom sash.
Sliding windows open horizontally, and typically only have one sash that moves while the other is in a fixed position since the sash that is open doesn't matter as much. Casement windows are the style that uses a crank to open the window at a 90-degree angle. The screen is on the inside of the window, and the angle that the window opens makes it easy to clean both sides from inside your home.
The Glass
It is pretty standard for windows to offer double pane glass these days, which offers energy efficiency by trapping argon gas between the window panes. However, you can also upgrade to triple-pane glass. Three glass panes are known to improve the sound-dampening qualities of the window, which may be important to you if you live on a busy street.
Not sure which choices you should make when selecting new windows? Make sure to work with your window installation company during the selection process, and ask plenty of questions about your options.
